Adjectives that describe me: energetic, spunky (do they still use that word?), interesting, self-growth junkie, athletic, great cook, loyal friend – whether I know you 30 years or 30 days – baby-boomer, who was introduced to network marketing in the ’80′s and totally got the vision of the Power of “1″ and working off the leverage of others. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right time in my life, so I didn’t jump in. Bummer…!
At the time I was 8 months pregnant and had my own cookie company, which was a blast. When you’re in your 20′s you can do anything with no fear, even cold-calling on businesses to get clients for a cookie business. I gained a lot of experience working with all types of people prospecting and closing sales, which really paid off with big orders around the holidays and Valentine’s Day!
After the birth of my second son, the cookie business got to be too much for me to handle, so I “retired” from that and went to work selling and installing wood dashes to car dealerships in Southern California. This was another relationship-building business that was 100% based around prospecting and closing. Eventually I gained the respect and friendship of the General Sales Managers at the dealerships, and they would set aside a percentage of cars in advance from their next allocation.
I earned more working this part time job and taking six weeks off per year, then I would have if I had worked full time in a ‘real job.’
The lesson I learned from this was that Prospecting and Closing pays big money. And when you have a goal and a vision of what you want, you can do it.
Outside sales and marketing was my job of choice until my kids were in school, when I was fortunate enough to be a stay-at home mom for the next several years until they were off to college.
Once the first one was just about out the door, I immediately jumped into network marketing with that vision of residual income as vivid as it was 18 years before. Timing and the right opportunity are everything.
Since I was passionate about the company I partnered with I had no trouble sharing this with everyone I knew. In roughly 18 months, I enrolled over 100 people, with a large percentage as customers, and 5 years later, I’m still getting paid a residual income on those customers, despite the fact that I haven’t worked this company in 3 years. That is the power of educating people on the value of the products.
There was a lot of on-the-job training again with this company as there was with my other ventures. I started to incorporate the internet into my business and learned about attraction marketing.
Having a turn-key, duplicatable marketing system was a priority, and I read everything I could get my hands on, and did a lot of trial-and-error campaigns to learn this. And here we are today.
I’ve since partnered with the original company I was introduced to 23 years ago, and I’ve resurrected my prospecting and closing skills, and honed my internet experience to the point that I can now work a warm market or cold market, and I’m thrilled to share what I’ve learned about internet marketing with anyone who lands on my blog.
